Rapid Response is an S1 cross curricular event promoting careers in engineering. All subjects teach material over a two week period linked to an imaginary hurricane which has hit Honduras. Through these lessons pupils learn about the geography of the country, it's history and potential problems resulting from such a disaster, e.g. spread of disease, cost of aid and rebuilding as well as the importance of numeracy, mapping and language skills. An activity day is held at the end of the two week period and pupils are split into teams to develop their team work and creativity skills. Challenges include water purification, food preperation, presenting logistical information, orienteering, water transfer, building a shelter.
This event is sponsored by Leggat Plant Hire. We are delighted to announce the winners of the 2009 Rapid Response Challenge day were Evan Anderson, Mathew Davis, Andrew Mavers, Ciara Morton, Blair Rocks and Hollie Stanners.
