Performance One period each week is allocated to performance to cover two solo performance instruments. The choice of material for examination must be submitted to the class teacher by the first week in September, in order to verify the music with SQA prior to October each year. The requirements of the performance elements of the course are as follows: Assessed by an External Visiting examiner, (Excepting Access), who will sample pieces from the prepared programmes

Composition One period each week is allocated to composition which includes notation and musical literacy. A composition folio is required by each pupil as a compulsory element of the course, using Sibelius software to support the learning and teaching process. Assessed by Internal examination and external moderation, composition folios are required as follows:

Listening One period per week is allocated to listening. This is based on units, covering various concepts required by SQA. There will be an end of topic assessment and evaluation of teaching and learning. Regular use is made of the LTS website within the classroom and pupils should access this website in addition to the regular homework and revision given by the department.
