S3 and S4 at Barrhead High School
Pupils in S3 and S4 will follow a curriculum designed to prepare them for National Qualification courses at Intermediate level certificated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. The Scottish Education system is broad based, avoiding the need for premature specialisation. Barrhead High School believes in the benefits of this system in which our pupils may acquire a wide range of knowledge and experiences and skills - the able scientist, for instance, is encouraged to become a competent linguist. We feel that such a system allows for any later development to be maximised and for the pupils to gain a wider insight into the whole educational spectrum. Because of the care taken by primary and secondary cable to fulfil her/his potential. Pupils will study at Intermediate 2, Intermediate 1 or Access level, depending on their ability in a particular subject.
In S3 and S4 all pupils must study English, Mathematics, a Social subject and at least one Science subject.
Parents will want to look beyond S1 and S2, to study later in school.
To ensure the broad based curriculum pupils will elect to take 8 courses from the following modes:
1. English
2. Mathematical Studies
3. Science
4. Social Subjects
5. Moderm Lanuage
6. Technology
7. Creative and Aesthetic
8. Expressive Arts
In S4 all pupils are expected to do at least one week of Work Experience in an area that interests them. It is our aim to ensure that all young people will be equipped to take their place in society as responsible, well educated, caring people and to progress from S3 and S4 courses to more advanced qualifications.
